Chin Augmentation
Facial implants such as a chin implant are used to permanently enhance features with poor definition or projection. Chin implants can be used to realign the structure of a patient's face and thereby bring harmony and balance to the patient's facial features. If a patient is looking for overall balance, a chin implant is a great choice for a permanent, natural looking solution. Chin implants can also be used to lessen the effects of aging. Patients with small chins tend to develop earlier signs of aging around the chin and neck.

Chin implants can be performed as a stand-alone procedure or scheduled in conjunction with another surgery such as a facelift, rhinoplasty or neck liposuction. Patients can achieve the best cosmetic outcomes when facelift surgery is combined with a chin implant. For patients with fat under the chin, the shape of the chin and neck can be improved with a chin implant combined with liposuction.

If a patient is not yet ready for a chin augmentation or just a bit unsure, Dr. Jaggi may also recommend the use of a temporary injectable filler in the chin. Hyaluronic acid is a safe and natural, non-surgical option to chin implant surgery, where a patient can quickly and easily see the actual results of a more balance profile using a temporary alternative.

Chin Augmentation Surgery Procedure

Chin augmentation surgery involves making a small incision underneath the chin. Dr. Jaggi then creates a pocket above the chin bone and below the muscle. The implant is then placed and positioned inside this pocket. Finally, the pocket is closed using fine stitches.

Any scar from under the chin is usually negligible and also unnoticeable. The procedure is usually completed in an hour and performed on an outpatient basis with anaesthesia. Recovery is relatively quick but swelling and tenderness can be present for up to two to six weeks or more. Patients generally find that they are able to return to work or their usual daily activities within 5 to 7 days after the chin implant surgery.

Choosing a Chin Implant

There are a variety of sizes of chin implants to choose from. During the consultation, a patient will be able to touch and feel the implants and also obtain an assessment from Dr. Jaggi regarding which implant he feels would be best suited.

Preparing For Your Surgery

Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding. Please arrange for a responsible adult to take you and pick you up from your surgery and stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery.
